Sing of Thy Power and Mercy

by Ellery Hunsley...Psalms 59 is a prayer for deliverance. Constantly being pursued by Saul and his men, David knew he must consistently pray to God for deliverance. Confident of His deliverance, the psalmist resolved, "I will sing of Thy power ... of Thy mercy in the morning" (Ps. 59:16). While the wicked howl, the righteous sing. It is simply the nature of each. Here in verse 16 the psalmist joins two divine attributes together, strength and mercy. He realizes both are important for deliverance. For if you take away God's Strength, He can not protect us and if you take away His Mercy, He will not protect us. The two go hand in hand. What joy it is to greet the morning with God in prayer and find that strength and mercy, you need for the day.
